Description

Location: Sgurr na Banachdaich along the Cuillin Ridge looking towards Loch Coruisk and Blabheinn, the faraway darker hill, Isle of Skye, Inner Hebrides, Scotland
___________

Now many landscape photographers travel to Scotland, and they end up on Skye eventually.  They take pictures of the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing on the north part of the island.  These are impressive landscapes, but they can be easily reached by road and everyone takes pictures of them, a bit like the Buachaille Etive Mor near Glen Coe. It all gets a bit same old same old.  There is much more to see in Scotland than these two locations.

As mountaineer and photographer, I aim to get away from the road and get my camera into areas that 95% of tourists won't get to see.  The Cuillin Ridge is one such place.  It is considered to be the most challenging mountain terrain in the UK so only the more dedicated hill-goers attempt these impressive summits.

We traveled there last summer just at the end of a month long heatwave.  It's not very often you get these conditions in Scotland....too hot to go to the hills!  I had always wanted to attempt the infamous Cuillin ridge.  I probably wouldn't do it in poor weather, so to be up there in dry conditions was perfect.  The bright sunlight was difficult to shoot in, but we reached the summit quite late in the day to avoid the heat and I got some great photos around sunset.

This was a challenging picture to process, it isn't perfect and I'll return to it again someday.
